Empowering women is the new need

Like every year, Wheelbox has released the “India Skill Report” for 2022. According to it, Indian women are more employable than men.
52.8% of employable women to 47.2% of men. Commendable, right?
It’s not the first time that Indian women’s abilities have been reckoned with. Last year, it was 41.25% to 38.91%.
You can say, Women… are on Fire.

For over a decade now, women have been proving their potential and skills to be the most valuable resource in the working industry. You can take the example of women who are leading global companies like Leena Nair (Chanel), Roshni Nadar (HCL), and Ghazal Alagh (Mama Earth).
Of course, these are the big names. But don’t you see women in positions daily? From a receptionist to a CEO, the female workforce is rocking everywhere.

However, despite being more capable than men, the percentage of employed women in India is 36%, which is quite shocking.

It makes me wonder, what might be the reason for women participating in the workforce less?

And the reasons I discovered are startling but common ones. They are family responsibilities, maternity/child care, and not getting equal career choices as men. And now the pandemic has made millions of them exit their offices, leaving men in leads.

Hiring a diverse talent pool is required if leaders aim to blossom our businesses. And we can do it by simply adding more and more women to the team.

Women Add Value to the Organization

Women Add Value to the Organization

They contribute various talents, concepts, and viewpoints. Their natural tendencies of being empathic and generous create a cozy environment. Women are not just great mentors, but they are also better achievers. And things just naturally become simpler when people on your team are multi-taskers. Even studies have shown that having a women workforce on the team positively impacts the bottom line, resulting in more revenue.

The report also suggests that the demand for qualified and skilled professionals is expected to increase by 20% in 2022. Why not uplift this side of the workforce for the organization’s growth?

Organizations like Wipro, HCL, etc., have recognized the importance of women’s participation. And working efforts on hiring and re-hiring more of them through initiatives. It is great because many wanted to return to business but couldn’t find good opportunities. With these initiatives, women can start their chapters again. By launching skill-enhancing programs and employability training, leaders can increase their skills.

It is the need of the hour for leaders to focus on retaining the existing women workforce. They can

  • Provide a Flexible Work Environment: Every woman would love a work culture where she can manage her work and home. Leaders can give them that. Providing a flexible and comfortable work environment increases their willingness to work. And after the pandemic, the structure of a remote or hybrid workforce is kind of a must, don’t you think?
  • Equal Career Opportunities: This has been in discussion for years. Women in an organization who put in just as much effort as men deserve the same pay and opportunities for betterment as men. Some studies even suggest that organizations flourish more under women leaders.
  • Maternity & Child Care Benefits: Not having enough support from offices during pregnancy is one of the leading reasons for females leaving work. And when they’re finally able to get back, they live in the dilemma of child care. Today’s women want a space where they can have the benefits of both.
  • Harassment and Safe Transportation: There’s been an increase in the number of harassment cases in the office premises over years. If we’re willing to retain females, we need to create a secure environment for them. And provide safe transportation facilities.

There’s no doubt that women are an essential asset for companies. With their working and handling skills, we can paint the future to the next level.
